Comprehensive Fees for Participating in Foundations of Excellence® First-Year, Transfer, Implement or Refresh


Definitions Applied to the Cost Overview

New Foundations of Excellence® (FoE) Institutions are defined as colleges or universities that have never participated in a FoE process before.

Returning FoE Institutions are defined as colleges or universities that have participated in a FoE process one or more years ago and are signing up for a new self-study process. This includes:

  • Institutions that conducted a first-year study in the past and now wish to conduct a transfer study;
  • Institutions that conducted a transfer study in the past and now want to conduct a first-year study;
  • Institutions that want to repeat (refresh) a first-year study several years after completing an initial FoE first-year plan; and,
  • Institutions that want to repeat (refresh) a transfer study several years after completing an initial FoE transfer plan.

Information and Fees for New and Returning Institutions Conducting the Foundations of Excellence® in the First College Year Self-Study, the Foundations of Excellence® Transfer Self-Study, and/or the Foundations of Excellence® Refresh Self-Study

Participating institutions receive:

  • Intensive advisory support provided by Gardner Institute team
    • Senior staff advisor assigned to each institution
    • Frequent written and oral feedback
    • Periodic web seminars

    • Foundational Dimensions® , Performance Indicators, Current Practices Inventory, and Action Plan template
  • Access to FoEtec® web-based self-study technology platform for two years
  • Foundations of Excellence New Student Survey (optional for Former FoE Institutions)
    • Includes analytic tools for customized campus analysis
    • Benchmarking with peer institutions
  • Foundations of Excellence Faculty/Staff Survey (optional for Former FoE Institutions)
    • Includes analytic tools for customized campus analysis
    • Benchmarking with peer institutions
  • Registrations for the Foundations of Excellence® Launch Meeting for three persons (attendance is required for new FoE Institutional Participants)
  • Registration for the Foundations of Excellence® Summit Meeting for two persons
    (attendance is required for new and former FoE Institutional Participants)
  • National publicity

Important information for New Institutional Participants

  • Although there is no additional registration charge for the FoE Launch Meeting (for up to 3 institutional representatives), institutions are responsible for travel expenses and hotel accommodations; most meals will be provided by the Institute.
  • If an institution chooses to participate in the optional Winter Meeting, there will be a modest cost recovery registration fee of approximately $200 plus travel and accommodation costs for each institutional representative. The 2012 Winter Meeting will be on February 17, in San Antonio, Texas.

Important information for former institutions participating in a second self-study process:

  • Although use of surveys is highly encouraged, it is not required, which provides further cost reduction and flexibility;
  • Your institution's familiarity with FoE will enable you to get your study up and running more expeditiously. You would also be able to immediately build on your prior work in the first self-study.

New Participants: 2011-2012 Comprehensive Fees for Combined Self-Study Processes(Both First-Year Focus AND Transfer Focus)
Includes two years of advisory support from Gardner Institute
Base Fee $54,750*
FoE Surveys (Required) $ 5,200
Optional Two-Year Extended Payment Plan: No surcharge
*This constitutes a 50% savings over the base fee for a single self-study when institutions sign up for both at the same time.

Returning Participants: 2011-2012 Comprehensive Fees for Single Self-Study Process
(This Includes FoE Refresh or Institutions Signing Up for a Different Self-Study per the Definitions.
Base Fee $29,000**
FoE Surveys (Optional) $ 5,200

Extended payment plan not available

** This constitutes more than a 20% savings over the base fee for a single self-study when institutions return for a second self-study a year or more after completing the first version.

Information and Fees for FoE Implement

Participating institutions receive:

  • Gardner Institute support for implementing a recently completed FoE action plan
  • Ongoing formal access to the Gardner Institute staff's internationally recognized student success and strategic planning expertise
  • Formal continuation with a Gardner Institute FoE senior staff advisor including:
    • Quarterly conference calls
    • Quarterly reports with subsequent written feedback
    • Unlimited ad hoc e-mail support
    • Access to useful plan implementation webinars
  • Optional on campus site visit (extra fee required)
FoE Implement 2011-2012 Comprehensive Fee
Base Fee $23,000
Campus Visit (Optional) $ 5,000 plus travel and related visit expenses
