Joint Project between the Higher Learning Commission/NCA and the Policy Center on the First Year of College

Institutions that are regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) may use the Foundations of Excellence^® process as the first step in an officially sanctioned "special emphasis" self study for the purposes of reaffirmation of accreditation. Recent Events

The annual meeting of the Higher Learning Commission/NCA was held in April 2007. The Policy Center on the First Year of College and the Commission sponsored a Poster Fair exhibit which featured the creative work of several campuses drawn from the larger cohort of HLC institutions which have been engaged in the Foundations of Excellence self study. Steve Crow, President of The Higher Learning Commission/NCA was recently a featured speaker at the Maintaining the Momentum: Foundations of Excellence conference hosted by Oakton Community College and University of Wisconsin Colleges. This was an opportunity for both four- and two-year Foundations of Excellence institutions to share ideas and practices relevant to the first year of college with their colleagues.
